Top 10 Communication Rules for Business and Life

1. SHUT UP: Be a good listener.

2. DON'T SEND A BOOK REPORT VIA INSTANT MESSAGE AND DON'T TWITTER TO BREAK-UP: Always consider the proper way to send information and what the information should contain. Always include the proper context, the other party may not 'live and breathe' the same as you do.

3. THE SKY IS BLUE: Keep your communication emotionally neutral, especially if it can be emotionally charged. Say it like you would say 'The sky is blue.'

4. WHAT DO YOU MEAN?: Say what you mean. Don't beat around the bush or make them read between the lines. They may not read what you want them to read. No one is a mind reader.

5. DON'T TAKE THIS PERSONALLY, BUT...: Never take anything personally.

6. DON'T FILL THE GAPS: Don't make up stories to fill the gaps of information. Ask for others to fill the gaps.

7. AT THEIR BEST: Believe that all people are doing the best with what they have, even if you think they don't currently have much.

8. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU AR NOT SAYING: What is your body language saying? What is your facial expression saying? What is your tone saying?

9. CURIOSITY KILLED THE CAT, BUT NOT YOU: Asking questions never killed anyone. Be curious. Ask questions. Seek first to understand.

10. LEAVE THE JUDGE IN THE COURTROOM: Ask questions without judgment of any kind. I'm reading: Top 10 Communication Rules for Business and LifeTweet this!
