If your Big But is money, then invest in yourself!

During my presentation entitled “Your Big But” (if you haven’t heard it yet you really need to :-)), the number one barrier to reaching your dreams is almost always identified as money.  I find that we are all more than willing to spend money and invest in our children, cars, homes, entertainment, etc.,  yet when it comes to investing in ourselves, we become like Scrooge.  Heaven forbid we spend money on our own professional or personal development, let alone our dream.
What paralyzes us most is that we let the dream end before we can even get started.  We say, “I don’t have the money.”—done—end of story.  What if you DID have the money?  Then would you move forward, or is something else in your way?  What if you could FIND or RAISE the money? There are lots of ways to get money.  Here’s a true, recent example:
I met with my financial planner, Bill Hancock from Merrill Lynch, this week for lunch. (love him btw, if anyone is looking for one).  It was at his request because he wanted to learn more about my business and see how he could help.  That’s just who Bill is and that is why I love working with him.  As Bill walked through the door of the restaurant, I could tell he was on an important call and assumed it was another client.  He interrupted his call, to say hello and stepped back out to finish it.  As it turns out, the call was from a college buddy who was playing (and winning) in the World Series of Poker in Vegas.  Bill explained that his buddy had always had a dream of playing in the World Series of Poker, but that the entrance fee of $1500 was a little steep for him.  Not to be deterred, his friend decided to put up 50% himself and sell shares in his winnings for the other 50% to those friends and family members who would invest in him.  Bill had invested 10% and his buddy was calling to tell him that he had at least doubled his money based on his current standings in the tournament!  Not only was he living his dream, but he was joyfully sharing it and living it with his friends and family as well.  Now that is one awesome “get over your big but” story!
So do something to invest in yourself this month.  Take a class, buy a book (I highly recommend The Success Principles by Jack Canfield), hire a coach :-), spend some quality time on yourself…..something.  You are more than worth it…..and contact me if you need to get creative in overcoming your Big But—whatever it is!
